What this service is

nanote.link is the public sharing service for Nanote, a macOS companion app. When you share from Nanote, the app uploads a snapshot of a note’s plain text. Anyone with the link can read that snapshot. There are no accounts on this site.

What we store

  • Shared note text — the exact plain-text body you choose to share, served at a short public URL.
  • Optional note timestamp — if the Nanote app sends the note’s local creation time, we may display it on the share page.
  • Share metadata — when the snapshot was created on our servers, and a random public slug used in the URL.
  • Abuse reports — if someone reports a note, we store the slug, reason, optional details, optional contact email, a hashed form of the reporter’s IP address, and a truncated user-agent string so we can review and rate-limit reports.

We do not ask viewers to create accounts, and we do not store Nanote’s local notes unless you explicitly share a snapshot.

What is public

Shared notes are public to anyone who has the link. Treat the URL like a secret if the content is sensitive. Do not share passwords, private keys, or personal data you are not willing to expose. We may remove content that is illegal or abusive when we become aware of it.

How long we keep data

Snapshots remain available until they expire (if an expiry is set) or until we remove them for abuse, legal, or operational reasons. Server and access logs from our host may be retained for a limited period for security and reliability. Abuse reports are kept as long as needed to investigate and prevent misuse.

Third parties

Pages load fonts from Google Fonts. Hosting, DNS, and email delivery may involve infrastructure providers that process technical data (such as IP addresses) under their own terms. We do not sell personal information or use shared note content for advertising.

Children

This service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because shares are anonymous snapshots, we generally cannot identify “your” notes without the link. Every share page has a Report link in the footer — open the note’s URL and use that to request a takedown or flag illegal or abusive content. You can also email [email protected] for privacy questions.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use of nanote.link after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Contact

Privacy and abuse: [email protected]. For a specific shared note, use the Report link on that share’s page so we get the exact URL.
